Your comment about using too high of a retinoid and it leading to dry, dehydrated skin is a lesson I learned the hard way. For a few years I thought my skin had just become dry due to aging, without considering the strength of my tretinoin. Since I'd graduated in strength so slowly (over 4+ years), I hadn't even considered it to be a factor. Over the last year, I've dropped to using retinaldehyde and .025% strength tret most nights and my skin has never looked better, but it's been a bit of an identity crisis. My skin has switched back to oily and now has completely different requirements 🙃
I love the Dear Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Cream. It's never too heavy for my oily skin in the summer, but it's rich enough for the winter. It's recommended for dry skin, so it took me a long time to try it. I also absolutely love the Cosrx oil free moisturizer.
LOVE Korean moisturizers! They have saved my skin! Also love your Prequel products :) As a 57yo woman with dry skin living in a cold, dry climate (Alaska), I have found that using Korean (or other) hydrating toners as a first step to my skincare routines (multiple layers) has transformed my skin's overall hydration. Wish I known about this years ago!
I have dry skin that's both acne-prone & eczema-prone, living in the US Northeast, & Korean moisturizers & toners are amazing for my skin. I've used Pyunkang Yul Calming Moisture Repair Balm (winter), Pyunkang Yul Intensive Repair Moisturizer Cream (winter), Etude SoonJung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream (winter), COSRX Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask (anytime), & COSRX Full Fit Propolis Light Cream (summer). And if I listed the amazing toners I've used, we'd be here all day.
Dr. Sam, I am a new subscriber. I have learned so much from you in the last month. I have a background in medicine, and I am married to a doctor. Thank you for being the voice of reason in a complicated jungle of pharmacopeia!
Rec for easily sensitized normal/combo skin: Pyungkang Yul moisture cream. All it does is moisturize, no extras to brighten or help with acne or anything else, but it's so good. Lightweight enough to not feel greasy and be cosmetically elegant under SPF and makeup, but rich enough that it really gets the job done. My local Korean skincare shop stopped selling it, much to my devastation, so I have to find it elsewhere.
@@sheikhaannisa Yep! Has no fragrance or essential oils either. it is a very good, simple cream that protects and softens skin. One of my faves. Contains shea butter and glycerin so hydrating and moisturising.
Any Pyunkang Yul blue bottles for sensitive skin. I had perioral dermatitis for a spell and had to stop using EVERYTHING. My dermatologist had me stop using even face washes and moisturizers just to stop the dermatitis. The dryness of my skin from not moisturizing was just as irritating as the dermatitis. I tried using the Pyukang Yul Essence Toner in desperation to add some moisture without inflating my skin more. It helped! Now I use it all the time as a daily toner. The PK moisturizers are outstanding too. I love the Repair Balm. It feels like putting a hug on your face.

Ive used Moisture Bomb by Belif for several years. I love it. I have combination skin and the cream worked amazingly for me. …maybe not during hot and humid summers but year-round otherwise. I tried other moisturizers in the US but always went back to it. The fact that it’s also Korean makes me open to trying some of the products you mentioned. Thank you so much for this video ❤️
The Aestura line is one of my faves, I love the mist and the cream! The cica cream is another aestura cream that I like. I have the round lab lotion and quite like this under a cream. I buy round lab often, I use the cleansing oil, sheet masks and tonder as well. KBeauty is the best for sure
The APLB cream have been my first discovery of the brand with their serum ! I now have a full skincare routine of just APLB product lol They came out with a cleansing water recently and it's great to have to refresh my face in the morning instead of a full foam cleanser moment 😇 Love all their product for my sensitive AF skin ~

I use some of YOUR products such as the cleanser, hypochlorous Acid spray and face/body lotion and love them! My husband has confiscated the lotion for himself! I have used several of the products you've mentioned. I especially like the Aestura moisturizer (I use their cleanser as well) at night on my tretinoin days, it's the best! I'm 61 and have combo skin, Tzone oily, outer face dry. :/ I also love the Pyungkang yul products, they are geared toward sensitive and acne prone skin, which I have, and their moisturizers, calming essence toner and skin balm lotions/creams are so good! They have a line of anti-aging products as well that I want to try. I only use Korean Skin care, it's really the best, well other than your products of course. :)
I use the Purito Oat-In Calming Gel Cream as a summer moisturizer as my skin tends to get a little oily in the summer, and it's worked really well for me!
agree that Purito Oat-in-Calming Gel Cream is the goat for acne prone, oily, sensitive skin! Use it in the morning under sunscreen and in the evening under a thicker moisturizer :)
I LOVE Korean skincare, too! Can you answer a couple of questions? What in-home device produces real lifting results in jowel area? The Medicube Age-R Booster 6 in 1 is one I'm considering purchasing. I have the Nulook & the Omnilux red light mask you use but I just don't see lifting results from those in my jowel area? I'm now 58 so that's been a huge reason my skin is so great...that and sunscreen, but as I end menopause. ..wow...major lack in the jowels almost overnight!😮 I've incorporated Korean skincare as well but am considering trying HRT again but adding topical estrogen. What are your recommendations? ❤🇰🇷🇺🇸
Love K beauty, I use Korean moisturizing sunscreens for my first sunscreen application in the morning during the summer and in winter I layer same moisturizing sunscreen with another Korean moisturizer
There's also the Dear Klairs midnight blue calming cream. Which is a gel cream and supposedly good for barrier care and all skin types. Are you going to get either the Stylevana or YesStyle advent calenders?
I love the Purito Dermide Cica Barrier Sleeping Pack for a rich night moisturizer. Centella Asiatica is the second ingredient, but it also has Squalane, Ceramides, and Panthenol.
I love Etud Soonjung 2x barrier cream! I have dry sensitive skin but my best friend has oily skin that was dried out due to acne meds and she recommended it to me, we both love it. There are two versions though and I've only tried the one with the writing all across the front, not the one with Soonjung down the side.
Maybe they just changed the packaging and I'm still seeing and getting the old packages? I hope so because I love it and would hate if they changed the formula.
Thank you for the recommendations! I have tried Purito oat in gel cream - really great for humid hot weather, for oily skin. I also tried Cosrx oil free moisturizer with birch sap - I liked the texture BUT I wanted to mention something. In case you have sensitive eyes, better not buy it. My eyes are sensitive, I get eye sting with majority of sunscreens, the only one I have found that does not sting my eyes is Skin1004 hyalu cica sun serum.. But it is rare that moisturizers sting my eyes. But that Cosrx oil free moisturizer did that.
Oh my gosh, Dr. Sam! Just order most of them last month, except from the Cosrx one and the Isntree one because Olive Young Global does not carry it! I also bought the Austera one but in the big lotion formula so I can wear it both in the body and face, and also all the Aplb range for body and face since I have some break outs here and there. I have combination / dehydrated skin, and I love to use also the Skin1004 Centella cream after my retinol, the Round Lab Birch Juice moisturiser and the Torriden Hyaluronic Acid cream! 😊
Pampered Wolf has some great vids on LED masks. I learnt from her that using an antioxidant (I apply Isntree Green Tea Toner and NIODS Superoxide Mist prior, then allow my skin to dry) can help make the LED provide 4 x better results. She has teamed up with a lady who is an expert is LED (I think from memory she is a professor, or some kind of Dr?) and together, they have some great info on the do's, don'ts and how's of LED face masks. Its certainly worth a look.
Legitimacy of non-US brands is number one reason I don’t purchase from overseas, so thank you for finding a source that you feel is reputable! Would you also do a Korean sun screen video with products from Stylevanna?
Goodall Vegan Rice moisturizing cream. No fragrance or Niacinamide. I have slightly dry, to normal, rosacea, sensitive over 50 year old skin. Under $16 and can’t say enough about it. Available at Stylevana. Probably better for winter months but if you have dry skin this is worth a try. No smell at all.
Dr. Ellis, I enjoyed this video on one skincare routine for different skin types. Would you make a video on Korean face cleaners for different skin types. Thank you.
Thank you, Dr. Ellis 😊. You are SO helpful! I appreciate you ❤. Now I want to go out & buy one of each of these of the moisturizers. I'm sure I'll find one I really enjoy, or more. That would be a dream for me ☆. Thank you, again! You're the best! Beautiful, intelligent, & so very kind & genuine 🌷. Have a lovely day 🌻.
Dr. Ellis, what are your thoughts on the Bakuchiol serum or cream? I know you have to know what you’re looking for because there’s another type that appears to be the same thing. I read about it from an Oriental lady and she cautioned us to make sure you are getting the correct one. I really like the Haruharu Wonder eye cream with black rice and Bakuchiol. Great video and I love how you explain things in the way that everyone can understand. ❤
Thank you Dr Ellis! I love how your reviews are so thorough and you always cover the things that I think about. I’m very picky about the texture of my products and II feel like I can trust your recommendations because you feel the same way. Based on your recommendation, I’m going to try the Tir Tir and the Isntree Mugwort! You make them sound so effective and yummy!!
All my life I have had super oily skin. No breakouts, just greasy skin. And for the past couple of years "glass skin" has been the thing. I find it funny since now all these influencers look as greasy and shiny as I always have. I was ahead of my time!😘
I am so happy that your first point relates to the amount of water consumed. I’ve been drinking a TON of water the last few months and I feel my skin is actually worse than before I changed what I intake each day.
I have recently fallen in love with the Barr Centella Calming Barrier Cream, after learning about it from Karen Napoly on her RUclips channel. I have dry, acne-prone that I recently threw out of balance with a new tretinoin prescription. Within a week of paring down my skincare to just double cleansing in the evenings and following with this moisturizer, plus sunscreen during the day, my skin felt healed, soothed and comfy. And now, almost a month later doing the same routine, I've noticed its plumper, softer and smoother than its ever been. It just feels happy. And I'm not entirely sure if its related, but up until now I've relied on my twice weekly exfoliation to achieve smooth skin, and I've found that since I incorporated this moisturizer, I haven't really felt the need to exfoliate! Very curious. Anyway its been a lovely moisturizer for me, I would totally recommend.
An Indian product called Formularx barrier repair cream is amazing. I use tretinoin 0.05% 3-4 times a week, and this moisturizer prevents flaking and dryness. I have combination skin.
Hi Dr Sam. Nice video as always. I have normal, mature skin. Not oily, dry or sensitive. Do you suggest any that you mentioned here? I didn't hear a normal skin moisturizer suggestion. Thx a bunch
I guess I’m extra! I use different products on my dry skin and on my oily t zone! Pyungkang Yul Intensive repair cream on my dry skin; PKY Moisture Cream on my oily skin. Works beautifully!
Thank you, these are great k-beauty recommendations. Appreciate the Niacinamide-FREE recommendations. I absolutely hate it as it makes my skin TOO WHITE. I live in Australia and looking like a ghost is not so pretty here.
Great reccs doc, i got combi (somewhat sensitive) skin and the Aestura (sad that it got reformulated; DermaON label on the pack is the new one), birch (first ever i started with) and purito oat gel-cream are all in my arsenal, rock solid. I don't have the mugwort one, but i have a mugwort toner and clay mask stick too.
Thank you so much for reviewing these Asian moisturizers! I like my LaRoche Posay Double Repair but I would like to try others. I would use a lighter moisturizer under my makeup when I go out salsa dancing and sweat quite a bit. Winter is coming up and I want something that would help when we have the heater on and it’s dry in the house. Now that I have a very good day and night time skin care routine down, I would like to play with some different products that still have all of my favorite active ingredients. Just tried Cosrx snail mucin and it feels so nice. Does anyone know if I put it on before my moisturizer will it keep niacinamide from penetrating into my skin?
Thank you for acknowledging and providing recommendations for those of us who have a bad reaction to niacinamide. It is extremely difficult to find products that do not contain this ingredient. I would like to make a special request for suggestions on a non-hydroquinone pigmentation product that also does not contain niacinamide. Any idea where I can find this unicorn product?
Use an L Ascorbic Acid serum (Vitamin C) and try the Koji soap (Koji San is the best one) or another product containing Kojic Acid in the product. Alpha Arbutin may be good for reducing pigment to, but there is mixed opinion in that.
Yup, I already use that, except I haven’t found a kojic acid soap that I actually like and alpha arbutin hasn’t done much. Most serums with kojic acid or combination of other pigmentation fighting ingredients also contain niacinamide. The only thing I’ve found that has remotely helped, without containing hydroquinone, is Eucerin Anti-Pigment serum.
This year I've been really concerned about toxic ingredients in my skin care so I try to choose EWG verified products. Have you scrutinize the Korean skin care ingredients? I want to use products that are non-toxic while doing some good for my skin. Thank you so much!!
Can you please recommend some hylauronic FREE, UNSCENTED, SPF tinted moisturizers? Without limonine and eucalyptus and other smelly or irritating menthol ingredients
I bought the cosrx skin booster serum on your recommendation. But its breaking me out nonstop. The moment I stop using, my acne stops growing from next day itself. You didn’t mention that it has several oils in it. Nor did I find it anywhere before purchasing. Anyways. Btw, I would like to mention that I purchased your prequel cleanser and I’m enjoying it to use but I don’t know it is slightly breaking me out. Is it the glycerin doctor? I’m a dry combination acne prone girl
PLEASE make a video for people who have very dry mature sensitive skin. Thank you!

Wow! So many I want to try out! Thanks for all the recommendations! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you.
Its crazy how nobody mentions Zeroid, Real barrier, Atopalm and Curecode. To me those are the holy grail Korean moisturizers.
Hope you love! Keep me posted!
Thank you for your review. I must try the Tir Tir milk ampoule
Video request please. Pill/peel proof skin care routine and tips
The dry skin cream sounds very interesting. Might give it a try. Thank you for the review. Have a great day.!😎
My first time watching your video, very informative and easy to stay tuned. Thank you for your thorough insight and advice. 😊
Can you a video about best Korean sunscreens for each skin type...
Absolutely gorgeous! I'm excited to try it.❤🙌
An Indian product called Formularx barrier repair cream is amazing.
Thx a bunch
P-calm cato cream! Is a favourite of mine.
I guess I’m extra! I use different products on my dry skin and on my oily t zone! Pyungkang Yul Intensive repair cream on my dry skin; PKY Moisture Cream on my oily skin. Works beautifully!
Thank you for all your advice on korean skincare which im trying
Hi Dr. Ellis! Could you do another 'what I eat in a day' video? Thank you.
Thank you, these are great k-beauty recommendations. Appreciate the Niacinamide-FREE recommendations. I absolutely hate it as it makes my skin TOO WHITE. I live in Australia and looking like a ghost is not so pretty here.
Atopalm cream with MVE technology for extremely dry and very sensitive skin
Thank you for these recommendations... I'm curious about your opinion of Good Molecule's lightweight daily moisturizer, have you tried it?
I just discovered you and love your videos!
Thank you for the comprehensive video. Doc, may we use glutathione cream applying retin-A?
Great reccs doc, i got combi (somewhat sensitive) skin and the Aestura (sad that it got reformulated; DermaON label on the pack is the new one), birch (first ever i started with) and purito oat gel-cream are all in my arsenal, rock solid. I don't have the mugwort one, but i have a mugwort toner and clay mask stick too.
Great video!! Super helpful!!
Trust your recommendations so much!
I adore you 🥰 Can you cover EDS?! 😃
fantastic recommendations, thanks!
Another great video ❤ What do you think of the CLn Facial Moisturizer?
Do have a favorite eye cream for, mature, and very dry skin??
Yes please! I’d love a good eye cream rec!
I love the Beauty of Joseon retinal eye cream. Moisturizing, gentle, and does great things for texture
What is your opinion on getting a Hydration IV infusion? Is it worth it? Thank you .
Vaseline is great !
Shiseido Benefiance,
Annemarie Borlind eye wrinkle cream,
Some by me eye cream with retinol,
BJ serum with retinol.
Excited to try these recommendations. I tried the discount code but it didn't work.
